Crime drama series. Ex Vietnam Veteran Thomas Magnum tackles his cases as a private investigator in idyllic Hawaii.
Thomas Sullivan Magnum (Tom Selleck) is one of the most unique private investigators to hit the television screen. Enjoying a champagne existence on a beer budget, Magnum lives as a guest on the private beach of one of the finest estates in Hawaii. He lives rent-free and liberally enjoys the guest house, the pool, and a $60,000 red Ferrari. But there is a catch: He has a job to do. He has been hired by playboy Robin Masters to guard the estate—especially when Masters’ friends, who range from oil sheiks to stewardesses, use the place as a retreat.
Magnum worked in conjunction with Master’s fastidious British butler Higgins. The series was initially pitched to the networks in 1979 and was then set in the hyper rich LA suburbs of Bel-Air, sometime later CBS gave the go ahead but with changes; the crucial one being the change of location to Hawaii.
