Orange Is The New Black: The Chickening (Netflix, July 11, 2013)

In The Chickening it’s open season as Red offers a gift to whoever can catch a chicken seen in the grounds by Piper. Red is desperate to cook a proper chicken Kiev. Meanwhile Larry has discovered that it was Alex who did give her up to the Feds but he decides to keep it from her thinking that it will help Piper’s relationship with Alex while they are in prison together.

Daya is getting in deeper with prison guard Bennett and the pair are secretly passing notes to each other. The flashbacks this episode focus on Aleida and Daya, who is her daughter. We learn that Aleida is running a drug ring with her boyfriend Cesar, however she is caught and sent to prison, meanwhile Daya begins an affair with Cesar – so it’s no wonder the pair are not getting on inside.

Quite a light hearted episode at it’s heart, opening with the song Sunday Morning by the Velvet Underground and Nico as Piper tries a bit of weekend relaxation taking her book (Gone Girl) and coffee out into the grounds. There is quite a bit of fun to be had watching the inmates on the hunt for the mythical chicken too.
