A Very Royal Wedding airs Monday 30 Oct on ITV
Alexander Armstrong presents one-off documentary A Very Royal Wedding celebrating the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s wedding ceremony. The royal couple got married in November 1947, when a battered post-war Britain was still struggling with the devastation left by WWII.
Alexander discovers how, despite this, Britain pulled of the wedding of the century. The documentary includes contributions from Joan Collins and Sheila Hancock, who share their memories of the wedding. There are also some revealing insights from those who were part of the special day, such as Prince Michael of Kent.
Alexander meets the ordinary people who made this such a special occasion, including one of the seamstresses responsible for the spectacular wedding dress.
During the programme, Alexander will recreate the Queen’s exquisite three-carat diamond engagement ring, the nine-foot high wedding cake and the wedding bouquet. The documentary features stunning colour archive footage of the wedding as well as the Queen’s private home movie footage of the day.
A Very Royal Wedding airs Monday 30 October 2017 from 9.00pm-10.00pm on ITV.
