Sally Ann: The Reluctant Chosen (ITV 9 Dec 1979, with Mark Wynter)

In The Reluctant Chosen accountant Benny Richardson helps an old man, Bellamy, he comes across in the park on his lunch break. He takes him to he Salvation Army hostel around the corner and is pretty impressed with the way they deal with him. He feels he is getting “a call” and is keen to find out more but doesn’t know if he has the stomach for the work the Sally Ann does.

Meanwhile Major Cartwright has major trouble with an agressive and drunken homeless man.

Having grown up within the Sally Ann Hannah is still keen to sample what the real world has to offer.

Each episode tends to deal with an issue that the Salvation Army faces, the half hour running time does mean that they tend to be quite simplistic, such as here when Benny goes from being slightly interested to being ready to give it everything in the space of a couple of minutes.
