Screen One: The Accountant (BBC-1 1989, Alfred Molina, Tracie Hart)

Accountant

Director Les Blair, like Mike Leigh, is a major fan of improvising in his scripts and strong comedy drama The Accountant had some semi improvised moments. Alfred Molina plays mild mannered Jewish accountant Lionel Ellerman who gets well out of his depth when he begins working for a man who may well have mafia connections.

Molina, who became a household name in the ITV series EL CID, was nominated for a BAFTA award for his performance.
