Animated fantasy sitcom. In the stone age town, in the year year 1,000,040 B.C., of Bedrock, Cobblestone Count, crane driver Fred Flintstone works hard to bring home the bacon for his wife Wilma, daughter Pebbles (Wilma became the first animated pregnant women on TV when carrying Pebbles) and pet dinosaur Dino. Fred’s best friend was neighbour Barney Rubble who was married to Betty, they too had a young child (adopted) called Bamm Bamm.
Specials include The Flintstones Comedy Hour (1980) , The Flinstones Comedy Show, The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone (1980), The Flinstones New Neighbors (1980). Between 1981 and 1982 there was a remake of the series with Henry Corden voicing Fred this time out and besides The Flintstones and The Rubbles there was a new family called The Frankenstones who looked suspiciously like 1940’s style movie monsters. It went out in prime time and wasn’t seen by that many people.
In 1994 the first of two big screen movies appeared the first was called The Flintstones whilst the second appeared in 2000 and was called The Flintstones In Viva Rock Vegas. John Goodman was cast to perfection as Fred and Rick Moranis played Barney. Elizabeth Perkins was Wilma and Rosie O’Donnell was Betty.
Initially the series was planned to be called The Flagstones and original test footage for this series ended up, somewhat reshot, appearing in episode three of the first season.
