Crime drama series. Starring the under-rated Jack Shepherd (who for some reason has never quite achieved true house hold name status but is a brilliant actor) and based on the popular novels of W.J. Burley, Wycliffe takes us into the heart of the Cornish coast where Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe and his team (especially DI Lucy Lane and DI Doug Kersey) investigate murder, kidnap, arson and all manner of other devious crimes.
No super hero is Wycliffe though, towards the end of the shows run he is badly shot and almost dies, an experience that counters the way he investigates in future. Always tightly plotted, well acted and entertaining.
A 90 minute pilot was broadcast 7 August 1993 and a feature length Christmas special, Dance of the Scorpions, was broadcast 27 December 1997.
