Antony Sher's
one-man stage adaptation of Primo Levi's If This is a Man is the
detailed account of Levi's time as a prisoner in Auschwitz death camps.
Primo recounts Levi's journey by cattle truck to Auschwitz, his initial
harrowing days in the infamous death camp and continues through the
first desperate winter, the forging of friendships, routine of daily
life and the regular and barbaric process of 'selections' that
determined who would live and who would die.
"The person we
encounter on the pages of Levi's book, and in Sher's perfectly judged
performance, is a human being who has emphatically not been destroyed by
the very worst this world has to offer. That is the beacon in this
terrible darkness." Daily Telegraph.
