HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

USA | CBS | x 30 minute episodes | Broadcast 19 September 2005 -

Creators: Carter Bays, Craig Thomas / Theme Music: Hey Beautiful by The Solids / Executive Producers: Carter Bays, Pamela Fryman, Rob Greenberg, Eileen Heisler, DeAnn Heline, Craig Thomas

Sitcom. With a wickedly funny script and a cast hand-picked from the best of Joss Whedon’s big-budget sci-fi dramas, How I Met Your Mother has become a ratings success in the States, the UK, and many other countries. Most episodes of the show begin with an older version of the central character, Ted Mosby (played by Bob Saget), in the year 2030, telling his two teenage children about how he met their mother.

It’s around the time of this event that the entire plot of the show takes place - 25 years earlier, in 2005. The young Ted, played by Josh Radnor, is looking for love with the help of his group of friends, which includes his former girlfriend Robin (Cobie Smulders), the deadpan womanizer Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), law student Marshall (Jason Segel), and Marshall's fiancée Lily, a kindergarten teacher (Alyson Hannigan).

The identity of the mother of the show’s title remains unexplained throughout the series, and with each episode it’s hinted that one or another of the characters might end up with Ted. The candidates are often ruled out by what happens during the episode, or by a comment from the older Ted, who sometimes appears at the end of the show as well.

Refreshing and inventive, HIMYM is a very well-scripted sitcom boasting a mostly young but experienced cast.
