CAPTAIN AMERICA

USA / CBS / 1x120 minutes and 1x60 minutes / 19 January and 23 November 1979

Music: Mike Post, Pete Carpenter / Executive Producer: Allan Balter / Producer: Martin Goldstein / Writers: Don Ingalls (Story by Don Ingalls and Chester Krumholz)(pilot 1) / Wilton Schiller and Patricia Payne (pilot 2) / Director: Rod Holcomb (1), Ivan Nagy (2)

Executive Producer Allan Balter tried out unsuccessfully for a series with the comic book Captain America twice within the same year. First with a two hour movie and then a 60 minute attempt. Reb Brown starred as Captain America in both.

During World War 2, Steve Rogers, a scientist, developed Flag (Full Latent Ability Gain), a special serum that, taken from his cells, produced super – human strength and transformed him into Captain America, a daring and courageous war hero. More than 25 years later, when his son, Steve Rogers, Jr. is injured in an accident, he is given the special serum in an attempt to save his life when all other methods fail. Not only does FLAG save his life, but Steve Rogers, like his father, becomes Captain America, now a daring crime fighter.

In the first pilot, Steve attempts to thwart a madman who is threatening to destroy mankind and a neutron bomb. In the second pilot, Captain America searches for a kidnapped scientist who has the ability to accelerate the aging process.
