Hunter (BBC-1 2009, Hugh Bonneville, Janet McTeer)
This sequel to the mesmerising Five Days takes two of the police officers from that, Detective Sergeant Amy Foster and Detective Superintendent Iain Barclay, into the environs of a brand new case. In Hunter the pair are called in when two seven year olds (from differing backgrounds) are kidnapped by a group of extremists who will only release them if a number of highly radical demands are met.
Amy Foster has pretty much settled for early retirement and the wine bottle but Barclay convinces her that he really needs her for this case and she is quickly on top of the situation. As the tension mounts the kidnappers snatch another child…
Bonneville and McTeer gel very nicely in this two parter. Five Days was very good indeed and whilst this is generally a cut above your above your average tec drama it still doesn’t really offer up anything we haven’t seen before.
