TALES OF UNEASE: RIDE RIDE
UK / ITV – London Weekend Television / 1×30 minute episode / Broadcast 30 October 1970
Series: Tales of Unease
Episode 1 of 6
Writer: Michael Hastings / Production Design: Martin Johnson / Director: David Askey
In Ride Ride (the first episode of anthology series Tales of Unease) student Art picks up a girl, Sarah, at polytechnic dance, she begins acting strangely and demands that he drive her home on his motorbike. He does but when he arrives at her house she very quickly disappears, concerned he pays a visit to her house the next day only to discover she had died three weeks previously in an accident. Back at college on Monday he learns that the dance he went too didn’t actually take place and is due to happen the following weekend. Convinced he is going mad Art can’t but help be drawn to the dance where the same events begin to play out again, only this time it is not Sarah who is to be the victim.
The atmosphere builds and is very similar in tone to a lot of european horror/thriller movies being made around the same time. Plot wise it is also quite similar to Brian Clemens’ And Soon the Darkness but with a spooky twist at the end.
