“I have a lair – with WiFi“

In the Pilot opener of No Ordinary Family the Powell embark on a holiday to Brazil to regain some vaulable family time but they almost lose their lives when their plane crashes into a lake. Once back home Jim, who works for the police as a sketch artist, learns he has developed some superhero style powers in the shape of incredible strength and the ability to leap as high as a skyscraper. He takes best friend, DA George St Cloud, into his confidence and the pair decide that Jim must use his powers for good. Meanwhile the rest of the family are also starting to realise they also have superpowers, mum and career minded scientist Stephanie can now run at superfast speeds,

16 year old daughter Daphne has telepathic abilities and 14 year old Jim Junior aka JJ discovers he has incredible intelligence. As Jim embarks on a crime fighting quest he is shocked to learn that the first bad guy he tangles with also has special powers.

Fabulous opener, lots of funny dialogue mixed in with the pretty good special effects. The episode takes the form of a dialogue session with a marriage therapist and flashbacks etc. Tate Donovan who plays the pilot of the plane that crashes was supposed to have a bigger role in the show but that didn’t pan out. We are also briefly introduced to the idea of the fact of other people with special powers out there.
