TURN OF THE SCREW

USA / ABC – Dan Curtis Productions / 2×90 minute episodes / Broadcast 15 and 16 April 1974

Writer: William F. Nolan / Novel: Henry James / Music: Bob Cobert / Photography: Ben Colman / Producer and Director: Dan Curtis

This well cast version of Henry Jame’s much loved spine chiller was a shot on tape (and then given a film sheen look) The two part TV movie starred Lynn Redgrave in the lead role as governess Jane Cubberly who begins to believe that the two children in her care are very possibly possessed.

Always atmospheric, Turn of the Screw has been adapted many times for the big and small screen, not least in 1959 when Ingrid Bergman took the lead in her first TV role and again in 1961 as big screen movie The Innocents – this time starring Deborah Kerr. The BBC also mounted a very nice production in 2009.
