Comedy drama series. Teacher Mr. Sterling is aksed to become a US senator. Sterling happens to be the son and namesake of a
very popular former California governor, and the current governor is looking for a "Mr. Clean" with high name recognition to fill the seat of a corrupt U.S. senator who just died. The Sterling name is just that, and William Jr. is as clean as they come. Of course, his students (they're prisoners -- he's also a serious do-gooder)
are far more important to him than a craven politician, and to the
"maverick" Sterling (we know he's a maverick because, after all, he drives a motorcycle), all politicians are craven. Maybe that has something to with the fact that Junior is the only person in the world with a bad word to say about his father.

Kate worked as a journalist for the Valley Advocate and found herself involved in the solving of various crimes. After a spell off air the series returned under a new title Kate the Detective and then again as Kate Loves a Mystery. This final change saw Kate cease to be related to Columbo in any way and she was given the new surname of Callahan.
