Scientist Dr Sam Beckett is doomed to travel through time because of a failed experiment, his 'leaps' see him transported into the bodies of total strangers, who usually have some kind of problem that Sam can help with. Sam is helped/hindered by a hologram of work colleague Al Calavicci who is able to help Sam decipher why he leapt into the person he has and what their problem is.

There was also a robot called Andy.
