Today Tuesday 31 January 2023, there is a new episode of 24 Hours in A&E.

Episode 5 Staff at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre cope with the aftermath of a spike needle attack epidemic in the city’s nightclubs in October 2021. After a night on the town, three female college students from Nottingham wind up at the emergency room. The stress of being young ladies is a topic of conversation.

Kate, age 20, collapsed in a nightclub, stopped breathing properly, and got CPR from a friend before being transported to the hospital. Sarah and Pavni, two college students, sit together in the Urgent Treatment Unit’s waiting area. They are both worried that someone has spiked them.

Pavni, now 19, opens up about the racism she endured as a child while receiving medical care. Sarah, age 21, opens up about the influence Covid has had on her time at university and how, just when opportunities are presenting themselves, she is confronted with the challenge of overcoming an assault.
