48 Hours: Alisa Mathewson’s Night Terrors (CBS Saturday April 22, 2023)
48 Hours Alisa Mathewson’s Night Terrors airs Tonight on CBS
Florida dad Trevor Summers convinced his kids that he simply wanted to reconcile with his ex-wife Alisa. He went so far as to have one of his kids sneak him into Alisa’s house through an open window so he could have a conversation with her about reuniting the family.
The daughter had no idea that the reconciliation would develop into a nightmare that would last 55 hours and nearly take the life of Alisa Mathewson. Peter Van Sant, a correspondent for 48 HOURS, recounts the events of that night in 2017 and the subsequent prosecution of Trevor Summers in “Alisa Mathewson’s Night Terrors.”
When they were safely inside, Trevor Summers startled Alisa up by pouring water over her sleeping head. Arden, his 14-year-old daughter, was instructed to take her brothers and sister to where Trevor was living. According to the investigation team, Trevor Summers started his reign of terror by kidnapping Mathewson, sexually assaulting her, and then trying to kill her by tying her up with a set of Christmas lights. Trevor Summers even made a recording on Mathewson’s phone while posing as Mathewson at one point.
Mathewson discusses her experience testifying against her ex-husband in a wide-ranging interview with Van Sant.
“He put a pillow over my face, and he pushed down with all of his upper body,” Mathewson says of that attack. “And I thought about my kids … And I, and I lost consciousness.”
