60 Minutes Australia: Maybe Theyby/The Body in the Suitcase (Channel 9 Sunday 2 April 2023)
60 Minutes Australia this week…
MAYBE THEYBY
It’s not at all shocking to hear proud parents declare their newborn to be the most adorable and intelligent infant ever. But can small children make the most important choices at such a young age? What gender they are, for example. There’s a rising movement of parents who identify as “gender creative” who believe this to be true. Because they believe their children should have the right to choose their own identities, the parents are keeping their children’s sex a closely guarded secret. Amelia Adams learns that this means the infants are being referred to and treated as theybies rather than boys or girls.

THE BODY IN THE SUITCASE
Late last year, 38-year-old Melbourne native Jemma Mitchell was convicted guilty of a heinous crime in a courtroom in London. Mee Kuen Chong’s corpse was murdered, dismembered, and dumped in a suitcase on a secluded English beach. There was a mountain of proof pointing in the Australian’s direction. Mitchell was spotted numerous times by London’s CCTV cameras dragging his suitcase through the city. But now there’s a new wrinkle. Mitchell’s mom says her daughter is blameless and that there has been a horrible miscarriage of justice. Hilary Collard claims to have seen what was actually packed into the suitcase in an extraordinary conversation with Tom Steinfort.
