DISAPPEARED – While Vladimir Putin’s war rages on, the exact number of Ukrainian children allegedly kidnapped by Russia remains unknown. The Ukrainian government has put the number of abducted children at 20,000, but has speculated that it could be closer to 300,000. From Ukraine and Poland, correspondent Cecilia Vega reports on the perilous ordeals endured by mothers who, aided by the organization Save Ukraine, traverse thousands of miles into enemy territory in an attempt to rescue their children. Vega trailed one grandmother for months as she put her life on the line to locate her grandson just before he vanished without a trace. Nichole Marks is the producer.
THE STAND –New information regarding the August wildfire that ravaged the Hawaiian town of Lahaina has been reported by correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi. This includes the fact that firefighters from Maui County, who were engulfed in the fast-moving flames, barely escaped with their lives. Guy Campanile and Lucy Hatcher are the producers.
THE UNDERBOSS – Reporter Jon Wertheim profiles Steven Van Zandt, a longtime guitarist, musical director for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and the ultimate wingman, while reporting from backstage at a Bruce Springsteen concert in Rome. Van Zandt, who is 72 years old, and Wertheim discuss Springsteen’s childhood in New Jersey with Wertheim, the E Street Band’s success, Wertheim’s political activism, the changing music industry, and what makes Springsteen an authentic American original. Michael Karzis is the producer.
AFRICATOWN – The community of Africatown, established by the former slaves transported to Alabama on the Clotilda slave ship in 1860, is being covered by correspondent Anderson Cooper. Discovered in 2018 in an Alabama river, the Clotilda is the last known ship to transport enslaved Africans to the United States. This information was initially reported by 60 Minutes in 2020. When Timothy Meaher, the man who commissioned the Clotilda, and the descendants of the enslaved Africans finally meet, it will be a historic event, and Cooper will be there to witness it. This section is twice as long as that. Denise Schrier Cetta and Katie Brennan are the producers.
