Garten shares tips for home cooking and discusses how the pandemic influenced her most recent cookbook in her interview with Alfonsi.

Whither Ye Olde English Pub: Most English pubs were forced to close for more than a year due to the pandemic. Pubs were becoming fewer in number, and many people pondered whether COVID-19 would be the final nail in the coffin for them. Jon Wertheim visited these pillars of English culture when they reopened last summer to assess their potential future.

Sona And The Kora: Sona Jobarteh, the first female virtuoso kora player, is profiled by Lesley Stahl. The kora is a centuries-old instrument from West Africa. It has 21 strings and is compared to a harp, lute, and guitar. The kora is a component of a musical tradition in West Africa that is only passed down from father to son. Jobarteh, a 39-year-old woman sprung from one of those griot households; her parents were Gambians and Britons. Jobarteh contends that by bucking tradition, she is keeping it alive, and she has found acceptance in The Gambia, the most difficult area of all, thanks to a hit song that has unofficially become the national anthem.
