A Spy Among Friends Series Premiere (ITVX Thursday 8 December 2022)

Today Thursday 8 December 2022 the show A Spy Among Friends premieres on new UK streamer ITVX.

Boom-ooh-yatatatah: After Kim Philby flees to Moscow, Mrs. Lily Thomas from the Security Service (MI5) is looking into Nicholas Elliott, his closest friend in the British Secret Intelligence Service (also known as MI6): He helped Philby escape, but was that because he’s a traitor working for the Russians too, or was it just that their 23-year friendship clouded his judgment at a crucial time? Highly anticipated drama A Spy Among Friends, is set during the Cold War and based on Ben Macintyre’s #1 New York Times bestseller. Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce are the stars of the UK television series created in association with Sony Pictures Television, ITV Studios, and Veritas Entertainment Group (Jack Irish, Mare of Easttown).

The true story of Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby, two British spies and lifelong friends, is dramatized in the six-episode series. The most well-known British defector and Soviet double agent in history was Philby. This is a tale of personal deceit, betrayal, and loyalty. At the height of the Cold War, Philby’s deeply personal betrayal was discovered, which destroyed both British and American intelligence.

This spy thriller, from the makers of Homeland, dramatizes the illustrious true story of Nicholas Elliott (Lewis) and Kim Philby (Pearce), two spies and lifelong friends.

Alongside Pearce and Lewis, cast members include Anna Maxwell Martin (“Motherland,” “Line of Duty”), Adrian Edmondson (“Back to Life,” “The Pact”) and Stephen Kunken (“Billions,” “The Handmaid’s Tale”).
