Ancient Egypt By Train With Alice Roberts: Alexandria airs Saturday 3 June 2023 on Channel 4.

Professor Alice Roberts travels to the site of one of the world’s oldest and greatest civilizations and writes a fascinating account of her experiences there. And she’s taking the train to get there. The series begins at the Roman conquest of Ancient Egypt in the city of Alexandria, and then moves backwards through time to Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan.

Alice investigates further to find out what life was really like in this fascinating, brutal, and complex ancient civilization, beyond the myths and legends. Starting in Alexandria, Alice travels to the depths of the underworld in search of Cleopatra, visits the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, and learns how a slave rose to the position of sultan and created his own magical caste.
