Animal Park airs a new episode tonight Wednesday 5 April 2023 on BBC One.

Episode 8 The park’s rock hyrax mother is being rushed to the doctor for an emergency checkup, and her young’s lives are in the balance. Dozy, the mother, has been found to have some concerning lumps by the caretakers, and these may be affecting her ability to breastfeed her young. Dozy is at the vet, leaving the babies alone; now is the time to find out what happened so that mother can return to them before they get too hungry.

In other news, the park has welcomed back a species that has been absent since the middle of the eighteenth century: the red squirrel. Their population has declined due to rivalry from grey squirrels, which are invasive and wreaking havoc on the park’s ecosystem. The keepers are starting a breeding plan for red squirrels to help prevent the extinction of this beautiful British species, and they need an enclosure that will stimulate mating.

While Jean Johansson is out on safari, Kate helps maintain the cheetah in top shape through rigorous exercise, Ben makes a mud bath for the European wolves, and Kate learns to identify individual zebras and tests the ostrich’s eyesight.
