Antiques Roadshow: Royal Treasures airs Sunday 7 May 2023 on BBC One
To celebrate King Charles’s coronation, Antiques Roadshow is airing a special episode in which they will examine past episodes to find the most interesting items with a royal connection that have ever been featured on the show.
Fiona Bruce is given an exclusive look inside Westminster Abbey, the site of the upcoming coronation, while the rest of the team explores the beautiful grounds of Fulham Palace in search of new items with royal ties.
Frances Christie, an expert in photography, goes stamp collecting with Postal Museum employee Chris Taft and gets to see a sheet of brand new Charles III stamps as well as a sheet of rare penny black stamps with an eye-watering value.
Ceramics expert Serhat Ahmet gives advice on the best coronation mementos to collect and runs into a collector who has a set of coronation mugs that were featured on the first ever Antiques Roadshow 25 years ago.
Crisp packets, a cut-out-and-keep coach from the back of a Shredded Wheat packet from 1953, and a chocolate bar from 1897 commemorating King Edward VII’s coronation pique Fiona Bruce’s interest at the Museum of Brands.
An original document signed by Queen Elizabeth I and a gold bracelet presented by Queen Victoria to one of her ladies-in-waiting are also on display. And we take a look back at some of the more outlandish royal artefacts that have previously been featured on Antiques Roadshow, like a toilet seat from Osborne House used by the royal family, a pair of Queen Victoria’s knickers, and an x-ray of King Edward VIII’s hand.
