Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily “Series Premiere” (BBC One Tuesday 21 March 2023)

Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily airs a new episode tonight Tuesday 21 March 2023 on BBC One.

“Series Premiere” Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice of “Strictly Come Dancing” hit the road in Sciacca, a port city on the southern coast of Sicily, to discover the island’s long-lost ancient cities and stunning coastlines. Giovanni is taking Anton to Sicily to show him around his homeland, so the two friends must soon depart.

The group begins their exploration of Sicily at one of the island’s most renowned landmarks: the Valley of the Temples. These temples are all that remain of a once-great Greek city, and they are among the finest surviving specimens of classical Greek architecture. A stop at the pristine beaches of Porta Bianca followed by a trip to Syracuse for some more historical sightseeing was next on their itinerary. Almost 2,700 years ago, Syracuse was one of the largest ancient Greek colonies, and some of the original buildings from that time are still standing in the city’s Archaeological Park.

The next stop is the picturesque fishing village of Marzamemi, which has been operating since the tenth century. A day of fishing, with a twist, has been arranged by Giovanni. As an alternative to fishing for fish, the guys have decided to search for octopus. Anton and Giovanni’s first leg of their trip of Sicily concludes in Catania, the island’s second city, after they stop in Ortygia to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Giovanni has a deep connection to this area because he relocated there when he was 14 to pursue a career in dance. In the evening, the boys attend Catania’s annual tango festival, where they provide a performance that will be long remembered.
