Eric ‘Eazy-E’ Wright, known as the ‘Godfather of Gangster Rap,’ passed away unexpectedly on March 26, 1995. A true underdog, Eazy was raised in the rough neighborhoods of Compton and launched his career in the drug trade. Prison and gang violence were always looming over him, so he decided to put his business acumen toward something more respectable: rap music. With the profits from their drug trade, Eazy and his crew founded Ruthless Records and pioneered a new style of West Coast hip hop.

Although he was hired on as a manager, Eazy eventually became a rapper in his own right and an integral part of the controversial group N.W.A. However, at the age of 30, he was diagnosed with HIV; he passed away a month later.
