Autopsy: The Last Hours Of…: Flip Wilson airs Tonight on REELZ

Flip Wilson passed away on the evening of November 25, 1998, at the untimely age of 64. The brilliant comedic fire that Flip brought to American television in the ’70s will never be forgotten.

He paved the way for other black performers to find success in the entertainment industry and was widely regarded as a pioneering funny-man and philanthropist in his day. He was one-of-a-kind as a comedian, a true original who triumphed over extreme adversity to become a multimillionaire. But throughout his successful career, Flip struggled with alcohol and drugs to escape the demons from his past.

Sadly, Flip’s life was cut short by terminal cancer despite his dogged determination to make it from the squalor of Jersey City to the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles.

In order to determine what caused the fatal cancer that ultimately claimed the life of such a legendary figure in the world of comedy, Dr. Michael Hunter, a renowned medical examiner, will investigate and analyze all available evidence, including Flip’s medical history and first-hand accounts from his life.
