Autopsy: The Last Hours Of…: John F. Kennedy Jr. (S2022EP7 REELZ Sun May 22, 2022)
John Kennedy Jr’s Piper Sartoga plane crashed into the ocean off Martha’s Vineyard on July 16, 1999. Along with his wife Carolyn and her sister Lauren, he died instantly. John was only 38 years old. John shared some of these traits – his ADHD didn’t help – but he was aware of the destruction and disaster cycle. He appeared to be the only one who appeared capable of escaping the family’s dark history.
That little boy had grown into a gentle, beautiful man as the world watched. And he’d come to terms with the Kennedy legacy and his part in it over time. He’d realised that politics would suit his temperament and abilities. It was difficult to ignore the story of a Kennedy returning to the White House.
Everything came to an end when John Jr. died in a plane crash in the summer of 1999. The world wept again as John’s ashes were scattered from a US Navy destroyer off the coast of Massachusetts, as it had done at his father’s funeral in 1963. They were burying a modest, kind man who had captured the hearts of Americans. They were also burying a fantasy. Camelot had finally come to an end.
