Sammy Davis Junior, a legendary performer, passed away at the age of 64 on May 16th, 1990. He was known as “Mr. Show Business” for his 60-year career in theater, film, and television, all of which were made possible by his extraordinary talent in these areas.

Sammy grew up on the road with his father’s vaudeville act and eventually went on to great success as a solo artist. After losing an eye in a terrible car accident, he almost had to abandon his promising career. But he came back stronger than ever, becoming not only a solo superstar but also a member of Frank Sinatra’s legendary Rat Pack.

Sammy’s health was severely damaged by the stress and anxiety brought on by a lifetime of racist abuse, which occurred both on and off stage. He also drank heavily, tried various drugs, and smoked cigarettes nonstop for half a century. He was only 64 when he died from pneumonia brought on by laryngeal carcinoma, which was discovered only 8 months before his death.

Why was this legendary performer taken from us so soon? Even in its advanced stages, laryngeal cancer is treatable.
