Derek Mathewson believes the 1980s were a dark time for British auto production, but the Restoring Classics team revived the fastest production MG ever made, the Montego Turbo, as a tribute to that era.

The car’s 0-60 time of just over 7 seconds attracts the team, but they ignore most of the advice and go all out on the vehicle despite its poor coachwork.

A vintage Shellmex globe that was once displayed atop petrol stations’ counters was also acquired with auction budget. The question is whether or not Derek will enjoy the artistic approach taken. The original Sixers, who are now in their sixties, relive fond memories by catching up with a Cumbrian scout bus from the 1970s.

Season 2 Episode 1

A Bangers & Cash spin-off series that follows the journey of a vehicle purchased at a Mathewsons classic car auction, before being repaired, restored and then re-auctioned in order to try and find the vehicle a new home and loving owner.

These genuine restoration projects, with varying degrees of difficulty, show how tricky it can really be to restore classic vehicles back to their former glory. Derek, Paul and Dave Mathewson are on hand to share their advice and observations on the variety of different jobs, which include an MG Montego Turbo with its engine in the boot, and a rare Lotus Elan S1 that hasn’t seen a road for 47 years.
