The 2022 BBC New Comedy Awards final, which was filmed in front of a packed house at Cardiff’s National Concert Hall of Wales, also presents the prize for the year’s best new digital comedy. It is hosted by award-winning actress and comedian Kerry Godliman.

Six regional heats that were filmed all over the UK led up to the final. It’s difficult for judges Fern Brady, Rosie Jones, and Nabil Abdulrashid to choose a winner from the group of comics.

The New Comedy Awards final kicks off a year of comedy events in Cardiff, which the BBC has designated as its City of Comedy 2022.

Peter Kay, Joe Lycett, Lee Mack, Julian Barratt, Josie Long, Shaparak Khorsandi, Romesh Ranganathan, Alan Carr, Russell Howard, Lee Ridley, Tom Allen, Lauren Pattison, and Sarah Millican are just a few of the renowned comedians whose careers have benefited from the establishment of these prestigious awards since their inception in 1995.
