BBC Young Musician: Strings Final Highlights (S2022EP1 BBC Four Sunday 2 October 2022)

Strings Final Highlights: The most exceptional young classical talent from all over the UK is featured in BBC Young Musician, which is returning to BBC Four. Highlights from the five category finals in strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, and keyboard will be presented to you from Sunday through Thursday this week. Each competition’s winners will earn a spot in the grand final, which will air in its entirety on BBC Four on Sunday, October 9.

The category finals were filmed at the renowned concert venue, Saffron Hall, and were hosted by saxophonist Jess Gillam, who was also a finalist for the BBC Young Musician competition, and pianist and composer Alexis Ffrench.

With violinists Aki Blendis (14), Dawid Kasprzak (16), Edward Walton (16), Clara-Sophia Wernig (16), and violist Jaren Ziegler (16), the strings final kicks off the series.

Jennifer Pike, a violinist, who made history 20 years ago by winning BBC Young Musician at the age of 12, and Philip Dukes, a viola player with a 30-year career that has included appearances at the BBC Proms and a long recording history, are both members of the jury tonight. Anna Lapwood, an organist, conductor, broadcaster, and director of music at Pembroke College in Cambridge, is presiding over the Young Musician jury for the entire series.
