Bergerac: The Messenger Boy (BBC-1 11 Mar 1990, with Bruce Payne)
In The Messenger Boy, Debbie makes one of her rare appearances on the show. She has a new boyfriend, Jake, who she wants to marry. He seems something of a city type but is currently between jobs. When Charlie pays her a visit in London she is kidnapped after the pair return home from dinner, very quickly followed by her boyfriend.
Charles persuades Jim to come home to London and help him. Willy also turns up the following day to give Jim a hand.
It’s pretty obvious what is going on but it’s a tense enough episode. With Jim set up in his own office, provided by Charlie to use as a London base, it does give him a glimpse into what would be like to go solo as a private investigator. Fittingly the episode ends with Jim telling Barney just what he can do with his job.
