Big Brother: The Eleventh Commandment (Series Premiere ITV Sat 29 Aug 1970, with Peter Vaughan)
In The Eleventh Commandment, the opening production of this six part anthology series, the focus is on a Mary Whitehouse type character called Hazel Victoria Pride who is the leader of an organisation called “Keep the Great in Britain” – she is firmly of the opinion that something needs to be done with the growing sense of rebellion exhibited by the youth of the country. The youth of course have other ideas.
Some interesting faces popped up in the drama, most notably Peter Vaughan as well as a young Leigh Lawson and Lynn Dalby who, the following year, would go on to appear in Budgie as his long suffering girlfriend Hazel. Valerie White, who had the lead role of Mrs Pride, had a whole raft of character parts in movies and tv from the 1940’s onwards and was the third wife of actor Albert Lieven.
