Black Sails X (Starz 31 Jan 2015, with Brendan Murray)

In Black Sails X Flint and Silver may still be alive and aboard their newly captured boat but acting captain Dufresne makes it plain that once back at Nassau the pair will be cast aside. Flint tells Silver that he will be back in command before you know it. It takes all his wily skills and a close run thing with an attack on an English ship for Flint to pull it off.

Meanwhile Ned Low, within the space of a couple of appearances makes it plain what a loathsome character he truly is. He even makes Vane seem like a nice chap. His scenes with Eleanor in the tavern and the subsequent fight that ensues is pretty stomach churning. Low takes out his first mate, who is trying to undermine him, as well as Eleanor’s chief bodyguard.

There are more flashback scenes to London ten years earlier where James Flint is James McGraw and a prominent member of the Royal Navy. He is helping Sir Thomas Hamilton come up with a possible plan to tackle the Pirates currently bringing the Caribbean to it’s knees. He also meets Hamilton’s wife who we know as Miranda Barlow.

Vane watches all that is going on with Low but at this stage is refusing to get involved. Much to Eleanor’s chagrin. Jack Rackham is desperate to come up with a plan to get back his captaincy; His woman though, Anne Bonny, is keener to get into bed with brothel madam Max. This development has been inevitable for quite some time.
