Black Sails XXVII (Starz 19 Mar 2017, with Laudo Liebenberg)

In Black Sails XXVII Eleanor confronts Vane in his cell, he tells her that her father betrayed her and offered to give her to Vane if he let him go. She then loses her temper and begins to beat him but inside she knows he is telling the truth. With Rogers having lapsed into fever Eleanor now seems to be in a position of some power. She has positioned things so that Rogers’ men answer to her whilst Rogers is out of action.

She immediately uses her new found powers to organise an accelerated trial for Vane, found guilty (off screen, we hear about it via Featherstone relaying the news to Billy) he is to be hung on the island within 24 hours. A massive crowd gathers, Billy only has a dozen men to try and turn the men to their favour and create enough of a disturbance. Vane though signals Billy to wait and makes an impassioned speech and basically sacrifices himself to make sure that the resistance in Nassau gets underway.

Vane’s death is very much a surprise, we couldn’t help thinking that he would be rescued, it’s a supremely powerful scene and it is definitely a shame to see Vane go. When Blackbeard hears about the death of Vane he knows he has to act.

The Walrus is now heading back to Maroon, closely followed by Hornigold, it’s a close run thing but Flint makes it. Hornigold thinks he will be able to tack round the coast and land on the island but then he sees just how many men Flint now has on Maroon. Flint estimates that they have a week before the English arrive to try and claim back the cache. Mr Scott dies and after the funeral Flint begins organising the defence of Maroon.
