Britain in Bloom airs a new episode tonight Tuesday 31 January 2023 on BBC Two.
“Mablethorpe” Chris Bavin visits the Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, Bloomers, who have been competing in Bloom for ten years but have never won the top award. They’re planning three massive new initiatives for this year in the hopes of bringing attention to their long-forgotten beach hamlet and possibly even winning a prestigious gold award.
A three-meter-tall helter-skelter and a dalek are part of their out-of-the-box proposal to construct a Season of enormous, colourful items at the town’s entrance. To win over the judges, the local centre for persons with learning disabilities is cultivating a spectacular garden, and now the Bloomers are calling on the whole neighbourhood to pitch in and help spruce up the promenade.
These Mablethorpe residents, who are known as Bloomers, take great satisfaction in being original, but they have only seven weeks to get everything ready for judging.
