Britain in Bloom airs a new episode tonight Monday 30 January 2023 on BBC Two.
“Usk” Usk, in Monmouthshire, is often referred to as the “borough of flowers” in Wales, and Chris Bavin pays it a visit. For 36 years, this neighbourhood has participated in Britain in Bloom, and every time, they come out on top with a gold medal. But each year they must think of something new if they want to keep their title. Three major initiatives are being planned by the community.
To begin, they want to plant a vibrant new garden in the entire town square. Second, the local elementary school’s Gardening Gang has been working hard to grow a prize-winning vegetable garden. Finally, the Bloomers want to transform a boring concrete nook into a new bee-friendly garden, but this is a huge undertaking that will require the help of the entire neighbourhood.
