Charley’s Grants (BBC Sitcom, Willoughby Goddard, Hattie Jacques)

In short lived sitcom Charley’s Grants, the Lord Charley (played by Willoughby Goddard) of the title is determined to lay his hands on a series of artistic grants – despite his lack of artistic ability.

The series was written by arch satirists John Fortune, John Wells and N. F. Simpson. It was tucked away in a late night Sunday night slot so didn’t get too much of an audience.

Cast: Willoughby Goddard (Lord Charley), Hattie Jacques (Miss Manger), Aubrey Morris (Angus), Howard Goorney (Waterbrain)

Writers: John Fortune, John Wells, N. F. Simpson / Producer: Ian MacNaughton

UK / BBC Two / 6×25 minute episodes / Broadcast 22 March – 26 April 1970 Sundays 10.15pm
