Cilla: at the BBC airs Friday 26 May 2023 on BBC Four.

Sadly missed national treasure Cilla Black’s illustrious career in front of the camera as a TV host began in 1968 on the BBC. After scoring her first Number 1 with Anyone Who Had a Heart, the biggest-selling hit by a female singer in the 1960s, she was well on her way to becoming the nation’s favourite female pop singer of the decade.

This compilation pays tribute to the BBC’s coverage of Cilla during her 60s pop star years, including appearances on shows like Peter Cook and Dudley Moore’s Not Only…But Also, The Ken Dodd Show, Top of the Pops, and The Royal Variety Performance, before focusing on highlights from the long-running self-titled series she hosted for the BBC between 1968 and 1976, such as the Paul McCartney-penned theme song Step Inside Love and that famous duet with Marc Bolan on Life.
