Cobra : Cyberwar Series Two | Episode Guide
EPISODE 1
Prime Minister Robert Sutherland, his Chief of Staff Anna Marshall and new Home Secretary Joseph Obasi assemble the emergency committee “COBRA” to respond to a potentially explosive situation in Kent. Meanwhile, former Home Secretary Archie Glover Morgan plots a return to power, as Francine Bridge contemplates new political direction. But when a suspected Kremlin operation on British soil causes collateral casualties, Sutherland feels compelled to respond with force – against the counsel of his MI5 Head Eleanor James. As the situation in Kent takes a sudden and catastrophic turn for the worse, an unseen enemy chooses this time to strike from the shadows, with devastating consequences. Who is this mysterious adversary? Are these simultaneous disasters linked? As the COBRA members grapple with these questions, they begin to fear they may be witnessing the opening moves of a wider game for which none of them are prepared.
EPISODE 2
Following devastation in Kent and the cyber-attack which continues to jam communications, the Prime Minister convenes an emergency COBRA meeting. MI5 Head Eleanor James agrees the timing of the attack suggests Russian involvement, but counsels against inflaming the situation. Her trepidation is overridden by Sutherland who demands a meeting with the Russian ambassador. Meanwhile, Fraser Walker coordinates a clean-up effort in Kent, as survivors of the disaster desperately cling to life. But when the meeting with Russian Ambassador Voronin reveals they have been lead down a dead end, just as a fresh wave of disaster further paralyses the clean-up operation, Sutherland is left red faced and demanding answers. But a moment’s respite comes with the publishing of a favourable report, and a much welcomed breakthrough in cyber defense. Francine Bridge is sweet-talked into rejoining the Labour party by it’s new leader Chris Edwards, who advises she invest in her budding friendship with Hari Misra, a journalist whose scoops are making him a powerful ally – as well as bringing him to the attention of Eleanor James. But who is his mysterious source, and what part do they have to play in the unfolding chaos?
EPISODE 3
COBRA is assembled when fresh disaster strikes – a breach at Dover port means an insidious threat may be in play. As Sutherland is briefed by his team, the mission is set; intercept any trucks which made it through the breach, whilst avoiding mass panic. Meanwhile, Chris Edwards urges Francine Bridge to run in the Kent by-election, capitalising on the disaster ridden region. She enlists journalist Hari Misra to give her the edge she will need. Shoring up his own strength, the PM re-hires Archie Glover-Morgan as Foreign Secretary, much to the chagrin of Anna Marshal, already angered by his choice of far right candidates for the Kent seat. As a high octane raid leads to frustration, the PM’s strategy of silence is tested by an anonymous online activist leaking footage. Panic and chaos ensues. Francine and Anna rekindle a useful friendship, while Archie and Eleanor bury the hatchet to investigate Chinese interference. A shocking revelation implicating Rachel Sutherland in a corruption scandal further rocks the Prime Minister, just as civil unrest breaks out over food supplies. With tensions reaching boiling point, the team make a shocking discovery which raises the one question a Prime Minister doesn’t want to ask.
EPISODE 4
Following the latest shocking discovery, the team scramble to understand what it means. It’s clearly a message, but who is the sender? Meanwhile, Francine’s TV attack on Lord Singer is met with delight by Labour leader Chris Edwards. It is also seized upon by online presence Firestorm, to Francine’s discomfort. Also concerned by Firestorm, Eleanor reports a sharp rise in online threats against those assembled at the morning’s COBRA, as well as against Lord Singer and Rachel Sutherland. Not to be cowed, Sutherland and Rachel attend a memorial to the Kent disaster, where they are hounded by reporters and protestors, until a sudden and brutal attack brings the day to a bloody end. Shaken, the PM demands a hardline response which pushes the boundaries of legality, and he and Anna come to an angry dispute once more. Meanwhile, an investigation into the Medwick explosion implies there may be more to the tragedy and first appeared – but when a mysterious source profers this to Hari as a scoop, it may be too hot a potato to handle. As the PM takes drastic action against Firestorm, the question is asked – have they extinguished the fire, or merely stoked it?
EPISODE 5
Rachel Sutherland is dismayed by the fresh media assault on her reputation, but Robert is distracted – for somehow, Firestorm is back, and spreading misinformation about the water supply. Anna and Eleanor placate the seething PM, but when reports of new cyber attack chimes with Archie’s theory that a proxy war is underway, he demands they hit back at Russian and Chinese targets. Meanwhile, Francine’s campaign trail in Kent is disrupted by protestors whipped up both by Firestorm’s conspiracies, and the ‘dog whistle’ tactics of opponent Roger Hawkins. Robert is further ailed by the news that a child has been fallen ill from water contamination – information Firestorm uses to fan the flames of civil unrest to disastrous results. With the true scale of their adversary becoming clear, concerns about the PM’s state of mind stirs dissent amongst the ranks; a situation made worse by the ultimate showdown between Robert and Anna. With Hawkins gone rogue, riots and fire in the streets of Medwick, and a discovery from Eleanor revealing they may be approaching the endgame, the PM braces to address the nation. Will he be able to steady the ship, or will he succumb to the gathering storm?
EPISODE 6
Reeling from the events in Kent, the COBRA team are briefed by Eleanor on the nature of a sophisticated malware which has infected the UK’s critical infrastructure. An urgent response is needed if they are to avoid total calamity, but with Anna gone and dissent rising amongst the ranks, Robert grapples to make the right decision. Worse still, international allies are refusing calls for aid – could they be part of the consortium behind these attacks? As a showdown with the Prime Minister leads to Archie seeking the most unlikely of allies, Eleanor comes to Robert with a secret weapon. Meanwhile, Joseph Obasi makes a trip to Kent in a desperate bid to take control of Hawkins’ hateful campaign, whilst Francine Bridge faces peril in the first wave of infrastructure attacks. With the PM galvanised by this fresh onslaught, and bolstered by the renewed support of a beloved ally, a daring plan is formed – one that will need all the strength and unity they can muster, for it will take gambling with the highest stakes to face down world superpowers. As we race towards the explosive climax of the series, one question stands: who will blink first?
