In The Call Carmel Cantrell wants Jed to fly to Nashville to record one of his songs for a duet on her new album, she also makes it clear that she would like more than a professional relationship with him. Things get out of hand though when Jed turns her down and Carmel “falls off the wagon” and makes a fool of both herself and Jed live on stage. Andy McDougall comes to Jed’s rescue though.
Meanwhile Ade has been told by Detective Inspector Machin that they have been monitering “Snotter” for some time and believe that he plans to kill Ade and the police want him to act as bait so they can bring him in. Back in Newcastle Jed’s former workmates are thinking of investing some of their redundancy money into part ownership of a race horse.
A two steps forward three steps back kind of episode, Jed looks to have the big time in his grasp with his duet with Carmel but when he rebuffs her advances she falls off the wagon (she remarked in the previous episode that she had been “dry” for three years). Things are coming to a head with Ade too with a powerful stand off between a swat team and the dreadfully named Snotter and Ox which leaves Ox dead and Snotter badly injured but still determined to see Ade dead.
