Writer: Nick Hicks-Beach / Director: David Richards
Series: DCI Banks / Season 4 Episode 1
The critically acclaimed crime drama, based on the novels by Peter Robinson and starring Stephen Tompkinson as Banks, returns for a fourth series with a new two-part story, What Will Survive? After Banks suffers a massive personal loss and also discovers that DS Annie Cabbot (Andrea Lowe) is back with her former boyfriend, he is forced to navigate a complex murder investigation while still grieving.
A young Estonian woman is found dead on a piece of waste ground, apparently buried alive. As they piece together her movements, the team uncover a world of prostitution and drugs hidden behind a veneer of respectability. They discover that the murder victim had come to the UK to search for her sister who had recently gone missing. No one wants to talk but they eventually trace her sister’s pimp, who claims to run a legitimate escort business.
DI Helen Morton (Caroline Catz) and Banks make inroads with the prostitutes’ driver and Helen begins to suspect that his autistic son might have a connection with Katrin’s death, but when the driver’s house is burned down in a tragic fire, Banks and his team begin to uncover an even more disturbing truth.
