Dr. Phil Today Monday May 15, 2023, on CBS. Doreen and Yvette have never met, but they share many similarities; they both say they spend their days fighting for freedom in a corrupt legal system.
Both John Giuca, Doreen’s son, and Billie Allen, Yvette’s brother, have spent the better part of their lives behind bars for offenses they maintain they did not commit. John was found guilty of murder and given a 25-to-life sentence. Billie was found guilty of first-degree murder and robbery and given the death penalty. Both women insist they will do whatever it takes to free their family member from jail.
To make friends with a potential juror in John’s murder trial, Doreen even went undercover, disguising herself as a sultry blonde in her thirties. Investigate the findings she claims to have made.
The attorneys for John and Billie, Mark Bederow, Marty Tankleff, and Marc Howard, as well as Jason Flom of the “Wrongful Convictions” podcast, discuss with Dr. Phil the reasons why the justice system needs reform.
Meet Jaye, a recent college grad who participated in a program called “Making an Exoneree.” She describes her experience of meeting Billie in person for Dr. Phil. Also included are explanations from actor Gbenga Akinnagbe and activist Whitney Meilan Yang for their support of Billie’s bid.
Airdate: Monday May 15, 2023 at 3.00pm on CBS.
