Flying Solo: The Mystery Of Amelia Earhart (More 4 Sat 21 May 2022)
This documentary features contributions from Dorothy Cochrane (Curator of Aviation at the National Air and Space Museum) and Ric Gillespie (Director of TIGHAR, a group still searching for Earhart’s remains), and was shot in Vermont, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Amy Kleppner, Amelia’s niece and Muriel’s daughter, provides in-depth and personal insight in the documentary.
Amelia Earhart was a female pilot who embodied female aviation endeavours. Amelia and her sister Muriel grew up in a changing society. Women were beginning to demand their rights, and aeronautics was one of the fields in which they could excel, as flight was still in its infancy and had no long history of male dominance.
Amelia was hooked from the moment she took to the air, and through sheer willpower and determination, she would become one of the most famous aviators in history. Despite the fact that their lives were very different, the two sisters were completely reliant on each other for unwavering sibling support. Many people are still trying to figure out what happened to Amelia to this day. Numerous theories have been proposed, but her disappearance remains unsolved.
Amelia, known to Muriel as ‘A.E.,’ had a supporter in her younger sister, who would play a key role in keeping Amelia’s memory alive. Muriel’s daughter Amy Kleppner would take over the role after her death.
