Follyfoot: The Prize (ITV 23 Jul 1972, with Elaine Donnelly)
In The Prize Steve is spending rather a lot of time with Wendy Bendiger, whose father bought her Taminy in the previous episode Poor Bald Head, he thinks she is only interested in improving her horse riding skills. Dora of course knows otherwise – poor old Steve can’t quite see what is under his nose.
Dora is also having trouble with horse Kalinka who has to have everything how she likes it or she won’t move. Dora eventually realise that the poor horse is having trouble with her eyes and is going slowly blind.
Much of the first part of the story is given over to the gymkhana fun day that Dora has organised before tackling the dynamic Dora and Steve. Dora is clearly put out by Steve’s friendship with Wendy but as always nothing is said. Steve meanwhile spends most of his time with Wendy talking about Dora.
The pain of young love rings out very clearly in The Prize.
