Forensics: The Real CSI: Playing with Fire airs Tuesday 30 May 2023 on BBC Two

Luke Beckett, a fire investigator, is called in as firefighters battle a massive blaze at a Birmingham factory, in order to collect evidence before it is destroyed. Luke suspects that the fire was intentionally started due to the lack of natural ignition sources, and a police investigation is launched as a result.

Fortunately, the factory’s CCTV room was spared in the blaze, but no forensic clues were discovered in the rubble. Luke and the authorities must work together to determine whether the arson was premeditated, accidental, or caused by some other factor.
