Giri/Haji Episode 6 airs Thurs 21 Nov on BBC Two

As the emotional impact of Hotaka’s (Togo Igawa) death takes its toll, the Mori brothers decide to set aside their conflict and let honour prevail.
They take Sarah (Kelly Macdonald), Taki (Aoi Okuyama) and Rodney (Will Sharpe) to the beach and hold a makeshift vigil in his memory. Whilst there, Yuto (Yosuke Kubozuka) is presented with the opportunity to run – but will he betray his brother for a shot at freedom?

Rodney is still denying his feelings of guilt over Tiff’s (John McCrea) death, choosing instead to displace them with an ever-stronger cocktail of drugs and alcohol. It isn’t until Rodney smokes some of Tiff’s crack and Sarah notices his decline, that he admits he has a problem. He bids farewell to Tiff’s memory in one last high and begins to accept the help he so desperately needs.

In Tokyo, Rei (Yuko Nakamora) empowers a mournful Natsuko (Mitsuko Oka) to focus on her new grandson, Sora. The pair break him and Eiko (Anna Sawai) out of Fukuhara’s safe house, narrowly escaping his henchmen. Then, as they hit the road, the women form unlikely bonds and begin to revel in the sense of adventure, even if a pair of vicious yakuza are hot on their trail.

Kenzo (Takehiro Hira) and Yuto also find themselves in danger when their plans to return to Tokyo are derailed by Ian (Jamie Draven). He has photographs of them at Sarah’s flat and is threatening to pass them to the police, spelling disaster for both Kenzo and Yuto’s freedom and Sarah’s life and career.
