Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star: Episode 8 (S4EP8 BBC Three Wed 29 June 2022)

There can only be one winner in the Glow Up Final, where the MUAs must deliver a masterclass to a distinguished panel of industry titans from around the world.

It’s the Glow Up finale, and our three finalists have proven they have what it takes to become Britain’s Next Make-Up Star over the past seven weeks. The MUAs’ final assignment will put them to the ultimate test as they present a masterclass to notable professionals from various fields, including Terry De Gunzberg (a pioneer in makeup and owner of the brand By Terry), Liz Hambleton (of Space NK), Amanda Knight, an Oscar-nominated film and TV makeup artist, and model Munroe Bergdorf, to name a few.

With career-boosting opportunities on offer the pressure has never been greater, especially when this week’s guest judge is masterclass mogul Manny MUA, who joins Val, Dominic, and the panel to watch the MUAs present their individual signature look. One by one, the MUAs must showcase their masterclass technique, whilst engaging and best informing the elite audience.

One MUA plans to tackle a graphic eyeliner, the second takes a less conventional route by showcasing how best to apply a bald cap, and the third teaches us how to apply a special FX scar.

The next day in Glow Up Studios, with no red chairs to worry about, all the MUAs start on an equal footing – and with everything to play for the MUAs take on their final Creative Brief, make-up metamorphosis. They must show the judges how far they have come in the competition and what they are capable of. To add extra pressure, our judges have one final surprise for the MUAs – another guest judge who will be taking our MUAs final photo of the competition – renowned photographer Rankin.

One MUA’s interpretation of metamorphosis is inspired by the poisonous dart frogs, with a range of bright colours this small reptile might look harmless but to certain prey they are deadly. Another MUA draws inspiration from a previous creation in week one, but after their rollercoaster make-up journey they want to show the judges the new 2.0 version of themselves. The last finalist produces a vivid nature spirit to represent their growth throughout the competition.

Once the Creative Brief is over, the judges must decide which MUA has fallen at the last hurdle and which two head into the final Face Off, with only one being crowned winner of Glow Up, Britain’s Next Make-Up Star.
